Very good Annika. You are a good climber. I also like to watch you select just the perfect triangle to start climbing on too. I’m glad to see you swinging in circles too. Keep pacticing and send more videos too.
Thank you,
G’Pa
we'll think of something interesting to put here. but for now, it's nice to know i don't have to.
Snaps
Dusk at Blue Hill Bay.
The first of many batches of pesto. Not our basil – but it still rocks. This year, Annika did the labeling.
The fashion designer.
The Barbie doctor?
A girl and her Very Hungry Caterpillar.
Scenes from turning 5.
Friends and candles.
At our library, kids get to decorate their own library card. We told Annika that she could get her own card when she turned 5. This is what we did on the 21st. she didn’t waste any time.
Scenes from a classroom visit. A few days before school started, the Kindergarteners get to come check out the digs.
Of course there’s Snack Time. Window faces north to the “Big Kid” playground. The kids in K, 1 and 2 are in a different playground.
Her cubby and her Kissing Hand. Based on the book by the same name. Visiting parents made and left behind our hands so the kids had something to carry around when they missed us.
The House
Cubbies and House
Rug and Library
Tables, no desks until 2nd grade.
Art area. Sink is on the right as is their own bathroom.
Entrance to the classroom. Pictures of all the kids.
Our little tadpole
Annika and besties. Annika and Emily have been playing together monst evey Monday since they were about a year old. When Emily’s twin brothers (Wyatt [L] and Spencer [R]) were born, the girls decided that they could tag along. This was our last official Monday Playdate.
During the classroom visit, the kids has a scavenger hunt. A short checklist of things to find around the classroom so that they get familiar with things. I did the reading, Annika did the finding and writing.
The World Famous Blue Hill Fair, say so on the sign.
This year, Annika is tall enough (42″!) to ride some of the bigger and faster kiddo rides. We could’ve spent $50 on tickets just on this crazy dragon. Just noisy and rickety enough that I double-checked the insurance card while she squealed her way around it.
Of course she loved it.
The wide shot.
One of the other ferris wheels. Annika was interested until she saw that each car spun on it’s own. Not her cup of tea…yet.
We saved a ride on the big, official Ferris Wheel for nighttime…as one should.
We took Annika to see her first movie at a movie theatre. Disney’s Planes. Two thumbs up.
We’ve been teaching Annika how to play Uno and she’s become pretty good…still needs to work on her strategy though. We were at a pub in Bangor for dinner and so we thought we’d introduce her to pub games. She’s a bit of a card shark.
Nothing here about the kid – just something weird that I saw on my way through Trenton (outside of Ellsworth) to Northeast Harbor (on Mt. Desert Island).
Of course we went back to the fair. When it’s a mile away, and it’s the end of summer…
And another ride on The Dragon…this time she experimented with ‘no hands’.
First Day of School. She declared it Stripe Day. Pillow for Rest Time, after Lunch and Recess.
The first day of school and they’ve already begun to decorate.
Easiest way to find out what happened at school is to start with, “What was your job today?” so far – she likes Day Off the best. 2nd runner up: It’s a tie between Messenger (you get to walk notes to the office) and Plants (you get to water them).
We figure out the weather and give her some guidelines…and then it’s out of our hands…we are learning how to pick our battles.
On a recent Satruday, we went to Belfast and made our frist stop the city park. It has one of the best playgrounds. Great equipment, awesome landscaping, well-planned hardscaping, and did I mention it’s on the water? Annika needed to wear her Fairyland Key necklace (yes, Fairyland in Oakland)…she was busy locking and unlocking things all afternoon.
Up, up up.
Across
Today in micro-fashion…
Run
More climbing.
She’s learning her way across the bars.
The onther night we had a homework project. Make a timeline with 5 or 6 milestones. Annika was thrilled that it was on purple paper. Her favorite color. At school, they all took turns showing their timeline and talking about the pictures.
1st Field Trip: Wight’s Apple Orchard in Bucksport. Of course I chaperoned – wouldn’t miss it for the world.
Sampling the wares.
running with a friend.
This is the part where she’s telling me about the apples and how we should take care of them
She’s in a deep, DEEP rainbow phase. All rainbows, all the time.
Sometimes these random superheroes show up at our house. Come out of no where and usually fight crime with laughter and funny faces.
This is what is looks like around here right now. Colors are coming in…
